Maine
This is the northeast corner of the continental United States, bordered by Canada to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Europeans colonized the state in the 1600s, but it didn't join the Union until 1820 when it became the 23rd state. A rugged coastline of mountains and lobster fishing give this state an accurate reputation, and this place has the lowest population density of all the states sitting east of the Mighty Mississippi.
